At first I hated infographics. I have a new #1 of the things I do not like. In the #1 position we have given the crown to creating INSTAGRAM STORIES! Now, I love instagram, because its a great way to keep in contact with friends. I love seeing their pictures and what they are up to. But for me; having to create a story; Dear Lord, Have Mercy that I did not through this laptop against the wall and yell out "You want a story? Here's your Story! Mild Mannered Teacher goes wacko creating a simple story! " It took me longer that I would have liked; but I hope I did well to complete the assignment. *****New Updated Note*** I didn't know that Instagram story deletes itself after 24 hours. So I went back and created the story again as if it were a regular post; and then re-did it somewhat again as a story***** That is why Instagram Stories are my new #1 for what I dislike!
Screencast-o-matic seemed easy to use but what took me long is for me to happy with the recording. I had to record myself at least 8 times before I finally said this is the one. I did have several pop up windows show up throughout the presentation but I was lucky that they were not inappropriate.
Of the three the one that I like the most was Screencast-o-matic. It was fairly easy to use and you are able to save a copy on your desktop. The students would probably prefer to use Instagram; because they are already used to it. The problem that I have in regards to using Instagram is that it is blocked at our school. If we are using the school's internet connection than this site is blocked.
All of the options are great to use for students; especially if they are creating a "how-to" video when creating a project online. For kids this would be a great way to show adults how to play some of the video games that they play online and what they need to do to be able to live past 30 seconds from the start of the game.

Pablo,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I have to tell you that I really enjoyed reading your Screencast & Instagram post. Your post have a lot of voice and feeling. Your retelling makes the reader feel your anguish. Having said that, I see your point about Instagram stories. I had some issues as well but I know of teachers that use Instagram in their classroom on a daily basis and have used it long enough to iron off all those problems. I had seldomly used Instagram so I think that if I would use it regularly I could get more comfortable and creative with it, too.
On another note, I also feel that screencast-o-matic was the best choices out of the three. It was fairly easy to use and had many options of sharing it and or downloading it as well. I could see myself utilizing this resource as a means of posting them on the school website that way staff, parents and teachers can use as needed. I can see the point you made about students using the screencast-o-matic to make how to videos for a project.
All in all, I enjoyed reading your post and watching your screencast.
Best,
J. Hortencia Valdez
I'm sure it was frustrating when your story disappeared. Hopefully, your blog post will help others to avoid this unwelcome surprise.
ReplyDeleteHi Pablo. I liked your sense of humor within your blog post. I have to say that I did read about the 24 hour story within Instagram and decided to upload it as a story first. Then, I checked my photos on my phone and as I suspected, it was saved. I uploaded it on my Instagram feed and did not have to worry about the story being erased. Quick FYI. Great review!
ReplyDeletePablo, I'm sure your students will not have any problems searching for a book, since you explained it very well. Great Job!!!

I love your blog! It makes me laugh, because I can relate especially to Instagram. I like using it for sharing pictures, but posting stories is something else. I did like screencast-o-matic and can see lots of possible uses for the classroom.
ReplyDeletePablo-
ReplyDeleteThank you for making me laugh!! I feel your pain...I didn't know that the Instagram stories deleted themselves either (that's what I get for not reading the "fine print" lol). -Teresa ;)
I'm not into posting stories on Instagram. I love editing and posting pictures on there, but that's it. I didn't know the stories automatically deleted after a certain period of time. That's good to know and makes sense, now that I think about it. If that's the case then what is the big deal with Snapchat? Doesn't it have this same feature? I guess the kids really like the filters. I have to admit, they are pretty adorbale. :)
